Classroom Libraries

Flangoo is a great resource for students who speak Spanish, German, or French. This digital resource has books written in those languages and by levels so students can read in the classroom and at home.

A classroom library is essential to encourage reading among students. Teachers must also include bilingual books in the library or books from different languages and cultures to promote translanguaging. These variations of books enable funds of knowledge that enhance connections between L1 and L2. Also, parents who do not speak the target language can still support their child's education by reading books to them in their parent's native language. Reading strategies will be acquired if family members get involved and encourage the children to read at home even though it is not in the target language. If teachers provide students with a variety of books, targeting the students' first language will promote the acquisition of English and assimilation of the culture, increasing vocabulary, phonological awareness, and text structure, resulting in a more profound understanding.

Locating Books

These websites resources contain online books in different languages. Those resources are wonderful for teachers that have different languages in the classroom. Also, some of these websites have as an option to go back and forth  from the target language to the students' first language so students can read in both languages.
